Retirement is accelerating in unit count, not megawatts

How to use this, and what it does not tell you

Read before acting on any site in the tables above

Interconnection rights are not established here. EIA-860M records generation status. It says nothing about whether a retired plant's point of interconnection, capacity interconnection rights or queue position survive, or whether they are transferable. That must be confirmed with PJM and the transmission owner for each site individually.
"No units remain" is a derived flag, not a site inspection. It means no generating unit of any fuel still reports under that EIA Plant ID. It does not confirm the land is available, the equipment is demolished, or the owner will sell.
Pre-2002 closures are invisible. The EIA-860M Retired tab begins with 2002 retirements. Biomass plants that closed earlier are not in this dataset and are not in this report.
Balancing Authority is as reported by EIA. Units are included where EIA lists Balancing Authority Code PJM. Fourteen further solid-fuel retirements in states partly inside the PJM footprint carry a blank Balancing Authority field and were excluded; most sit in Tennessee and Michigan, which are largely served by the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Midcontinent Independent System Operator respectively. They are listed in the accompanying workbook for manual checking.
Nameplate is not deliverable capacity. Megawatt figures are nameplate as filed with EIA. They are not a statement of what the interconnection can deliver today.
